Welcome year 33 for me this year! I am super excited to start the 2023-2024 school year! I have been with AACS since 1994 where I began as a tutor and 5th grade teacher at Saybrook Elementary. The following year I started an 18 year tenure as a 4th grade teacher at Saybrook. During my time as a teacher I coached elementary basketball for boys and girls. I coached football at West Junior High, Ashtabula High School and Lakeside High School. I started my administrative career in 2012 at Lakeside Junior High as an assistant principal and this will be my 7th year as principal.

I grew up around education as my mother was a teacher. My brother and mother in law were educators. And my wife is a former teacher and current administrator. I have three awesome children with two being in college and my youngest is a student here at LJH.

We strive to be the best version of ourselves here at LJH. Our staff strives to teach our students in not only the four core classes, but in other areas such as art, physical education, health and career explorations. We also have band 7, band 8, beginners band along with choir and orchestra. Students will learn SEL, (social emotional learning) on Mindset Mondays and will explore and celebrate other cultures as well!

Our goals this year for our 7th and 8th graders are for students to grow at least one grade level in math and ELA. We also want all students to grow at least 100 points in our Star testing. To achieve these goals students need to come to school every day. They also have to follow directions and complete assignments and assessments to the best of his or her abilities. When students show up ready to learn, it usually works out well.

Here’s to an awesome 2023-2024 school year here at Lakeside Junior High!

Dear Junior High Families,

Welcome to the new school year!  I am excited to announce after 13 years of teaching in Ashtabula Area City Schools, I am now taking on the role as Jr. High Assistant Principal.  I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child even better than before.  As parents and guardians, I understand that you are the most important teachers in your child’s life and it is with that understanding that I appreciate the role that you and I each play in the partnership to your child achieving the goals set forth for him or her.

I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself.  I earned my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education with a fourth and fifth grade endorsement from Youngstown State University and my Masters in Educational Administration also from Youngstown State University. I have worked at Lakeside in many different capacities, including coaching volleyball, basketball, and track, for three years I taught computer at Lakeside Intermediate, two years as a special education tutor at Lakeside High School, a fourth grade teacher at Superior Intermediate, and for the last seven years I have highly enjoyed my time as a second grade teacher.

It is my goal to instill a lifelong passion for learning in all of my students.  I have very high expectations of myself, as well as the teachers and students at LJHS. I have always found that to be a formula for success!  I want this to be an enjoyable year for all of our students but also a productive, challenging and encouraging year.

I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you and your families this year.   Let’s stay positive, but if there is ever a problem please get in contact with your child’s teacher, and then myself. Communication and perseverance are the keys to success.

Once again, welcome back, and I know that, together, we can make this a wonderful school year!

Sincerely,
